Bringing Oral Health Education to Local Schools: Iris Pediatric Dentistry’s Commitment to healthy smiles
At Iris Pediatric Dentistry, we believe that a healthy smile starts with education. That's why we're proud to partner with local elementary schools and preschools to teach young children the basics of oral health—giving them the tools and knowledge they need to take care of their teeth for a lifetime. Our goal is to make learning about oral hygiene fun, engaging, and accessible for kids, helping them develop good habits early on. Here’s a look at what we do during our educational visits to local schools:
Introducing Kids to the World of Dentistry
One of the first things we do when we visit a school is introduce children to the world of dentistry. We explain what a dentist is and why they play an important role in helping us keep our teeth healthy. We demonstrate all of the things a dentist wears during a visit to help calm nerves around the dentist.
What is a Cavity?
Next, we talk to the students about what a cavity is and how it forms. We explain that cavities are caused by germs in our mouths that can eat away at our teeth if we're not careful.
Oral Health Tools at Home
During our visit, we talk about what tools we can use at home to care for our teeth, including brushing twice a day for two minutes and flossing between every tooth. One of the best parts of our visits is the kids getting to practice their brushing and flossing skills on one of our dinosaurs. It’s a fun, hands-on way to learn how to keep their smiles bright.
Building a Foundation for a Lifetime of Healthy Smiles
At Iris Pediatric Dentistry, we understand that good oral health begins with knowledge. By bringing oral health education to local schools and preschools, we are helping to lay the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Whether it’s learning about cavities, practicing proper brushing techniques, or reading a fun story, our goal is to make dental care an exciting and positive part of every child’s routine.
We are honored to be part of these young students' journeys and look forward to continuing our mission of spreading the message of good oral health throughout our community.
